Iran Asserts It Will Not Abandon Nuclear Program
Araghchi told media via video interview, "Our facilities have been ... seriously damaged. The extent of which is now under evaluation by our atomic energy organization," noting that these attacks have temporarily halted Iran’s enrichment activities.
On June 22, the U.S. Air Force targeted three key Iranian nuclear sites—Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan—delivering a blow the Pentagon estimates has delayed Tehran’s nuclear development by "one to two years."
Araghchi emphasized, "We cannot give up enrichment because it is an achievement of our own scientists. And now, more than that, it is a question of national pride," adding, "Our enrichment is so dear to us."
These airstrikes occurred amid a 12-day intense conflict between Israel and Iran last month. The hostilities began on June 13 when Israel launched attacks across Iran, hitting military and nuclear facilities and killing senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
In response, Iran conducted numerous missile and drone strikes on Israeli territory, inflicting casualties and destruction. A ceasefire between the two nations was established on June 24.
Following Israel’s offensive, the sixth round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States—scheduled in Oman for June 15—was canceled.
After the interview was broadcast, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social Monday evening: "Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, on the Iran Nuclear Sites: 'Damages are very severe, they are destroyed.' Of course they are, just like I said, and we will do it again, if necessary!"
In late June, the U.S. Senate rejected a resolution aimed at restricting the president’s ability to authorize further military strikes against Iran without congressional consent.
