CENTCOM Chief Tours USS Abraham Lincoln During Arabian Sea Deployment

(MENAFN) The head of US Central Command paid a visit Saturday to the USS Abraham Lincoln as the aircraft carrier sailed through the Arabian Sea as part of a planned deployment, according to official statements.

Adm. Brad Cooper met with sailors and crew aboard the nuclear-powered carrier alongside special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The visit focused on personnel currently operating in the Middle East region.

During the visit, Cooper praised the crew’s performance and commitment, saying: “I join the American people in expressing our incredible pride in the Sailors and Marines of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group. Their dedication to the mission and professionalism are on full display here in the Middle East as they demonstrate U.S. military readiness and strength.”

Witkoff also spoke about meeting a pilot involved in a recent incident in which an Iranian drone was shot down after approaching the carrier earlier in the week “without clear intent.”

Commenting publicly, Witkoff said: “Proud to stand with the men and women who defend our interests, deter our adversaries, and show the world what American readiness and resolve look like, on watch every day.”

A day earlier, Witkoff and Kushner had been in Muscat, Oman, taking part in indirect discussions with Iran, amid escalating tensions linked to an increased US military presence in the Persian Gulf and repeated warnings of possible military action by President Donald Trump.

The USS Abraham Lincoln began its current deployment in November, initially operating in the Indo-Pacific before moving into the Middle East region in January.

According to official information, the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group includes the aircraft carrier itself, command elements from Carrier Strike Group 3, Destroyer Squadron 21, and Carrier Air Wing 9, along with guided-missile destroyers USS Frank E. Petersen Jr., USS Spruance, and USS Michael Murphy, as well as more than 60 fixed-wing and rotary aircraft.
